Halloween Hot Dog Mummies
Serves 2-6
These Halloween Hot Dog Mummies are perfect with our Helen Browning’s Hot Dogs. These take 30 minutes and you can even get the children involved; see what amazing creations they come up with – wrapping up their own hot dogs and decorating the Hot Dog Mummies eyes with cream cheese and olives or perhaps some dots of mustard if you prefer.
Ingredients
- Helen Browning’s Organic Hot Dogs
- 1 pack of ready rolled puff pastry
- 1 egg, beaten
- Mustard or cream cheese & olives for eye decorations
Method
Preheat the oven to 200°C/fan 180°C/gas mark 6.
Lightly roll out the pastry to 0.5cm thick over a floured surface, and cut vertically into long thin strips, about 0.5cm wide. You’ll need 1-2 strips per hot dog, so leave the leftover pastry wrapped up in the fridge for another dish.
Get the kids involved – wrap the pastry strips around each hot dog to create a mummy-wrap effect. Brush with the beaten egg, then put on a lined baking tray. Perhaps they can personalise their hot dogs with extra bits of shaped pastry or some very creative mummy wrapping!
Bake in the oven for 18-20 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and golden, and the hot dogs cooked through. Use blobs of soft cheese for the eyes, then top with a small piece of black olive, you could also use a little dollop of mustard or ketchup.
These will all go in a flash! Make a great big batch and serve with some mustard, ketchup and chilli sauce dips.
