What people are saying
We think our farm, pub and rooms are a place of fun, and wonder, and hopefully inspiration.
Here’s what the press are saying.
The Times, Tom Chesshyre
“This is a well-run, good value, down-to-earth pub with comfortable and stylish new rooms. 9/10”
The Guardian, Liz Boulter
“In my starter of pork rillettes with sourdough, happy piggy lives are evident in each tender shred. Better than both, though, is the irresistible streaky bacon in next morning’s full English. I’d be telling porkies if I said I regretted a morsel.”
Sunday Telegraph, Fiona Duncan
“Stay at the Royal Oak and you’ll find real farmers, real passion, the real deal”.
Crumbs Magazine
Helen Browning’s Royal Oak has extended its kitchen and bar area to allow even more people to enjoy the fabulous fodder, all based on the produce grown on its doorstep. The pub has also opened 12 gorgeous new rooms, which are all named (and themed) after fields on the farm, so you can practically roll into bed after dinner!
Here’s what our guests are saying.

A completely unique, relaxed, warm & friendly place with the most amazing food. Wonderful warm and welcoming staff who can’t do enough to help. The food is simple and fabulous.

What a find! We arrived early and were immediately greeted by the first of many friendly staff, offered refreshments and shown to our room. Parking was easy, secure and close to our room. Our room was of a very high standard with everything we needed. Bed was fantastic and all rooms would be quiet in such a small village setting. Breakfast was home grown food in the pub across car park.

Our room was fabulous, loved the furnishings, toiletries and of course the bath! Loved the pub – the available ales were spot on, the atmosphere friendly and cosy and the ability to have our dog with us at all times was great. Dinner all three nights was superb, couldn’t fault them at all and the service was efficient… All the staff made us feel extremely welcome and we genuinely didn’t want to leave on Monday. So pleased we found this absolute gem and will without a doubt be back (possibly for the pig racing!)

The food is superb with a seasonal menu using organic produce and breakfasts which will set you up for the day! The bedrooms are immaculate and beautifully themed with all the facilities you need (a personal favourite are the devine smelling toiletries) but what makes it a truly special experience are the fantastic members of staff who go above and beyond for their customers. This review alone cannot measure the love I have for this little gem as it is beyond excellent.

Understated luxury in a relaxed, peaceful setting with friendly people, delicious food and fab walks.
We stayed for two nights, ate breakfast lunch and dinner from a diverse and interesting menu. We were given a tour of the farm which was fascinating and then walked around all afternoon. The owners are lovely and friendly and went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
