This quick and easy Currywurst recipe can be made with either Helen Browning’s hot dogs or Speedy Sausages – either are ideal to use as a pre-cooked Bavarian style sausage. The delicious sauce made with good organic ketchup is a bit spicy, with a touch of sweetness and an interesting mix of spices, including curry, of course. It makes plain fried sausages or hot dogs something to shout about.
- Pack of speedy sausages or hot dogs
- Oven fries or bread rolls, to serve
Currywurst Sauce
- 250ml tomato ketchup
- 4-5 teaspoons mild curry powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- pinch ground cloves (optional)
- 2 teaspoons sweet or smoked paprika powder
- 2 teaspoons honey
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon water
Method
Put ketchup in a bowl. Add the rest of the sauce ingredients and mix well. Cover and leave in the fridge for flavours to develop – at least a couple of hours. Any leftover ketchup can be kept for a month in the fridge.
Cook hot dogs or sausages according to the pack instructions.
To serve, pour curry sauce over sausages and sprinkle with additional curry powder. Serve with crispy bread rolls or French fries.
