We’re big fans of batch cooking, and if you don’t have time to make meals every day, it’s a great way to make sure you have healthy meals ready when you need them.
Our Organic Beef and Pork Mince combines perfectly with some home-grown veg, a sprinkling of herbs and a tin of juicy chopped tomatoes to create a versatile, Italian Bolognese. Make a big batch of this scrummy sauce and keep it refrigerated, or frozen, to quickly whip up a variety of hearty, homemade suppers for all the family.
- Tbsp organic virgin olive oil
- 1 large organic/home grown onion
- Couple cloves of organic/home grown garlic (more if you like)
- Couple of organic/home grown carrots
- 1 pack frozen Helen Browning’s Pork Mince
- 1 pack frozen Helen Browning’s Beef Mince
- Couple heaped tbsps organic tomato puree
- 1 tin organic chopped tomatoes*
- A handful of fresh organic/homegrown herbs (we used a couple of bay leaves, a large sprig of rosemary and around a tsp of oregano)
- Large splash of balsamic vinegar
- Seasoning
- Defrost your mince overnight in the fridge.
- Warm a tbsp of organic virgin olive oil in a large frying pan.
- Finely chop the onion and carrots, and grate/press the garlic, add to the pan and gently fry until soft.
- Combine your defrosted mince in a bowl, then add to the pan, stirring to cook evenly.
- Once cooked, mix in the tomato puree.
- Pour in the chopped tomatoes, fill the empty tin halfway with water, swill round to soak up the leftovers, then add to the mixture.
- Add your herbs, cover and simmer on low for 30 mins.
- Give your mixture a stir, adding more water if needed. Add a splash of balsamic and season to taste.
- Leave uncovered on the heat for another 20 mins until thickened and fragrant.
If you are not using straightaway leave to cool before batching up in suitably sized, labelled containers for the fridge or freezer.
