I have now reached the end of my placement year at Helen Browning’s, and it is time to say farewell to Eastbrook Farm and hello (again) to Harper Adams University. From BREXIT to bacon, pandemics to piglets, it has been a year that I will never forget!
Over the past year, there have many been exciting changes that have allowed me to learn new skills and broaden my knowledge of the organic meat industry. The team and I have developed our online meat shop (with national delivery service) and is has been great to see this part of the business grow, whilst being able to communicate with lots of our lovely customers. We have also had lots of new product development too, as the Good Beef range continues to grow. There has been plenty of sampling along the way; Hettie the Labrador really is our chief taste tester!
I have really enjoyed working here at Eastbrook Farm; there have been many pub lunches at Helen Browning’s Royal Oak, lots of farrowing and calving out on the farm, several wonderful dogs to keep us company in the office, and a fab and friendly team to work with that have provided lots of help and guidance over the past year.
It has been great to see the wildlife around the farm, there are many deer, lots of rabbits and an incredible number of birds. The pigs have of course been my favourite animal on the farm, they are so friendly and such characters. Eastbrook Experiences run a fantastic tour that will show you all of the best bits.
My favourite Helen Browning’s Organic product is definitely our organic hot dogs. They are incredibly delicious with a wonderful smoky flavour, perfect for the BBQ or a quick lunchtime treat. I may be slightly biased, but I would highly recommend. Our pulled pork is also just as delicious… sampling all of these products really has been a perk of the job!
I am really going to miss working here in Bishopstone, although I am looking forward to be heading back to university with my friends in September to complete the final year of my degree in Business Management and Marketing. It is time to hand over to the lovely Ruth, who will be taking on the role, and I am sure she will do a marvellous job!
