Helen’s agroforestry project, a working field lab, is part of a pioneering movement happening across the UK and around the world. Eastbrook Farm’s project has already had a profound impact on the environment. Fields that were previously just grass are now full of orchids, and host to a wide range of insects and birds, including the red listed Meadow Pipit. The team are trialling a variety of different trees and bushes such as almonds, manuka, sea buckthorn and blackcurrants. This has inspired the production of the blackcurrant liqueur, bursting with zesty berries grown on the farm.

Helen Browning comments ‘The blackcurrants are thriving in our ever-growing forest garden! You can enjoy them all year with our stimulating blackcurrant liqueur, fantastic with organic prosecco or on its own over ice’.

Love this. Not too sweet, intense and the flavour is fab.

  2. Verified Customer

Makes a very enjoyable drink, refreshing, fruity, not too sweet. Mix it with anything ( I just use tonic).

  3. Verified Customer

This drink is absolutely bursting with blackcurrant flavour. It’s so clean in flavour too you can literally drink it like you would a glass of port. Its not overly sweet like most blackcurrant liqueurs. I think it will be a really versatile cooking ingredients too in deserts – maybe a blackcurrant trifle?

Kir granita recipe

Kir Royale Granita

Similar to sorbet, but icier. The high ratio of water to sugar gives that signature crunch. And you don’t need an ice-cream maker …

  • 100g granulated sugar, plus more if needed
  • 350ml water
  • 500ml Champagne / sparkling wine
  • 80ml Blackcurrant Spirit

TO SERVE

  • Whipped cream
  • Fresh raspberries

In a saucepan, heat the sugar and water until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and add the Champagne/sparkling wine and Blackcurrant Spirit.

Pour mixture into 2-quart container (sides should be about 2 inches high) and place in the freezer.

Begin checking it after about 1 hour; once it begins to freeze around the edges, take a fork and stir the mixture, breaking up the frozen parts near the edges into smaller chunks and raking them toward the center. Return dish to freezer, then check mixture every 30 minutes afterward, stirring each time and breaking up any large chunks into small pieces with a fork, until you have beautiful, fine crystals.

TIP: Spoon into chilled goblets and letting rest in the freezer until ready to serve.

Be an early bird.
