Exciting stuff! We had seven days of supremely 100% perfect weather in mid May, and the whole farm team mobilised for the 500 tonnes of grass we needed to harvest to preserve for winter feed. A couple of weeks earlier than usual, despite the hard winter, but the warm May had brought everything on in abundance.
To be honest, we’ve never seen blossom so intense as this year—the hawthorns look as if it’s been snowing, they are so white. Quite dazzling. The only minor mishap was Sophie, Helen’s daughter, making her bow as a major league tractor and trailer driver. Overseen by her dad, Henry, and the wonderful but sadly retiring Andrew Burtenshaw, she powered alongside the boys and only removed one gatepost! I am sure all the boys have taken out more than one gatepost in their time.
