Helen Browning's Organic Hot Dogs and Speedy Sausages

Sizzling sausages and meatballs…for EVERYONE!

We set out to make tasty, good quality sausages and meatballs that both adults and children will eat. We like to keep things simple – so we just use the best organic meat and great recipes – and it seems to work. The Hot Dogs and the Speedy Sausages flew off the shelves (pigs can fly) from day 1 and people started writing to say thank you for making such a tasty sausage! Sausage fan mail …we didn’t anticipate that! And now the Meatballs are following suit.

Gluten free Speedy sausages and mash

Over time we realised that many of the letters and emails are from customers who are coeliacs, or who have severe or mild intolerances to gluten and dairy ingredients. We are delighted that in setting out to make the best sausages we can, we came up with sausages that everyone can enjoy. Our meatballs are also gluten-free and unseasoned leaving you to be as adventurous as you like. They are all great for quick cook dinners and kids seem to love them.

And do you want to know our secret? Well, we have to admit it’s not rocket science but instead of bulking out sausages with whey and rusk, we use more good quality organic meat. We said it was simple!

So just to be clear Helen Browning Organics Hot Dogs, Speedy Sausages and Meatballs are:

  • gluten free
  • suitable for people with coeliac disease
  • dairy free
  • nut free

Gluten and Dairy Free – your questions answered

Q: Could you let me know what source your organic dextrose comes from please? My hubby has a wheat allergy so dextrose is a problem if it is from a wheat source.

Gluten free hot dogs

A: The dextrose is maize based

Q: Just wanted to check if your speedy sausages contain garlic or onion in any form?

A: The speedy sausages include wild garlic.

Q: I wonder if you could just advise if your organic bacon is nut and dairy free? Not looking for a guarantee, just an idea if it may have come in contact with any nuts or dairy.

A: Our bacon plant is not a nut free site but no nuts are processed there. There is a dairy component in some products (not in Helen Browning Organic’s bacon) but these are carefully controlled on a separate line. The risk of any contamination is therefore reduced as far as is practicable but not wholly removed.

Q: I am allergic to eggs, are there any traces of eggs in your sausages

A: No, there are no traces of eggs in the speedy sausages or our hot dogs.
There are no eggs used in the factory at all.

And here’s just a TASTER (boom, boom!) of some of the sizzling reviews from our customers…

I just wanted to say a big thank you for producing a kids sausage that is both gluten, soya and egg free. Your sausages are fantastic and my 2yr 10 month old little boy lives off them as he loves them and that is a huge endorsement as he has multiple food allergies and most things won't even get past his lips. So thank you for taking the time to develop such an excellent food item they are delicious and organic and he eats them!”
My autistic son is on a gluten and dairy free diet and he loves your sausages.”
I like these because they're fast, easy and a perfect quick fix for school day dinners. Unlike lots of other convenience foods they're also organic and have 96% pork meat so I don't feel guilty for giving them to my boys.”
We fried these, they were very quick to cook and they were delicious. The next day, they tasted even better. Yum.”
They are a constant presence in my freezer. Obviously easy to cook, as the title suggests, and straight from frozen too. My 4 year old just loves them.”

SA Gold Award

Hot Dog and Beef Sirloin Winners

Following two years of being ‘highly commended’, our Helen Browning brand organic hot dogs, have now won ‘Gold’ in the Organic Food Awards. They are amazing, we think – what hot dogs used to be like, before they were made of pig skin and old washing up lines all pulped up together! And Helen’s Beef Sirloin, also usually on the menu here, also won ‘Gold’.

Sustainable Restaurants award

Sustainable Restaurant Association gives
Helen Browning at The Royal Oak top score for good practice!

Out of about 450 restaurants, hotels and pubs, the SRA has awarded The Royal Oak Three Gold Stars for its sustainable practices. Our pub joins only three other establishments in the country in the top bracket of the SRA’s league table. They have commended our food sourcing, our healthy food on the plate, the way we treat food suppliers, our recycling and, last but not least, the care with which we try to look after customers and staff.
