The organic pig farm wins new contract to supply fresh pork to Ocado

Helen Browning’s Organic supply pork to Ocado

Helen Browning’s branded fresh pork will be available on the UK’s only dedicated online supermarket after winning a new deal with Ocado. This is the third significant online contract that the organic food and farming business has signed in the past year, following its breakthrough as a supplier to Riverford Organics and Abel & Cole, both online retailers.

Helen Browning’s Organic speedy sausages, hot dogs and bacon are well-known to Ocado shoppers but until early 2013 its fresh pork was only available at the farm’s award winning local pub in Wiltshire. “Our business has seen a steady growth this year,” says managing director, Tim Finney. “Our native breed pigs, which live across 90 acres of Eastbrook Farm, are the cornerstone of our enterprise. Customers at our pub, The Royal Oak, enthuse about our glorious pork and, following a series of tastings, Ocado shared this enthusiasm. We are delighted that we are to start the new year with an extension of our range.”

Sales of the Helen Browning’s Organic sausages and bacon have been successful since their launch in Ocado in 2011. Ocado buyer, Lucy Fry, said, “There is a growing loyalty amongst our customers for Helen Browning’s Organic bacon and sausages, and it is wonderful that we can now offer them fresh pork from the same reliable organic brand.” The fresh pork will be available at Ocado from January 14th, 2014. The launch will include a mix of PR and social media.

The fresh pork range will include fillet, mince, meatballs, and collar steaks. Recipes and cooking tips will be available on the Helen Browning’s Organic website, and on the Ocado site.

Helen Browning is recognised as a pioneer in organic farming methods, having started her business over 25 years ago before organic became a buzz word. The farm has developed the blueprint for organic pig production, and is well-known for native breed pigs, the pure British Saddleback. The distinctive orange pig on the packet makes it easy for customers to recognise the brand.

Unique flavour

Helen’s organic breeding herd of 200 sows thrive outdoors, make great mothers and produce outstanding pork. The pigs live in family groups with lots of space and clean ground. The land is free of fertilisers and chemicals, and the pigs’ diets do not contain antibiotics.
